Just Breath

If there is one thing I could tell you about having a great vacation at Disney or any where is to enjoy your self, to relax and just feel the place.  What do I mean by just feel the place?  Well when you walk into the Magic Kingdom there is a buzz or a feeling that you get.  I am not sure if it is the excitement that is coming over your children that you feel because they get to meet that princess that they have all ways wanted to meet or to finally get to see Mickey Mouse.  But this place just seems to come alive to me.. When I went there for the first time almost ten years ago I made one major mistake I thought it was " just a Theme Park".. No big deal right.. Wow was I ever wrong.  There is so much going on, so much to see and do.  If you do not have a game plan you can be in over your head in no time at all.
Some say I am crazy cause i look at the menus and  make a list of ones that are going to work for my family and ones that won't.  But when you get there it makes things easier.  You already know that you will find something that your little or big kid will eat.  Food is a big deal to me.  I love to eat and to try new things, also things seem to taste better to me if someone else is doing the cooking.  So I have a few places that I love to go to and I have a few places that I want to try.  When I talk to people about Disney food or the price of it seems to be the big thing.  Some thing the cost is over the top.  Well you need to look at what you get too.  Most places for quick service you get the burger, fries and a drink.  You can also get apple slices or water too.  But the size of the burger is huge I have seen family's order an extra bun and take the double burger and make it into two singles. The chicken from Comic's Rays is big enough that my husband and I share it all the time.  When we drove down this last time from Ct we stopped in New Jersey to see about eating and to get gas.  I found a fruit cup nothing huge about 8 oz maybe and it was over eight dollars and the fruit was not that good at all.  The next day i had the same thing at Disney for a snack credit and it was bigger and the fruit was amazing.
One thing that I have noticed with Disney is that they are doing more local and more seasonal foods. I love this things are fresh and taste amazing.  When my daughter found the fruit salad at one of the charter meals she was over the moon one of the black berry's was bigger then her nose.  Also for people that have food allergies this is heaven IF you know how to do it right.  all you have to do is to ask for a chief.  That is all you tell them what you can or can not eat and they will tell you what is safe or will make you something that you can eat.  we eat at Ohana for the first time this past trip and I am allergic to Turmic and one of the items have it in it.  They were going to give us something instead, but since the allergie is if I eat it not if I am touched by someone who has they just put it on a different plate and put it at the other end of the table away from me.  My friend who went with us who can not eat WHEY had and amazing time.  It was the first time in months that he had no problems at all.  HE was able to eat and eat, He is still talking about the hamburger from yak and yeti.
When I was at the store last week I over heard two woman talking about Disney one said that she was just going to go down and get a room and go eat at the castle.  I walked over and asked her where she was staying.  "I don't know yet the beach club looks good I might try there."  She had not made a reservation at all and when asked about the ADR that she made to eat at the Castle she was shocked that you had to .  She thought that you could just walk up and get in.  We had a 30 min chat and I told her some websites to try to see what place looks like.  And too get reviews.  she had no clue you had to do all this stuff she thought you could just walk in and get a room or a seat at a table.
Also if you have a good idea of where you want to go or see spend some time looking at a park map so your not wasting time at the parks going ok now where.  I have seen that look alot.  To me it just seems to waste the time you have on the trip.  And breath and enjoy your self, so what if things do go just as they had planned as long as everyone had a good time that is all that matters..

OMG the Food!!!

Ok I have one down fall in life and that is good food.  I know that there are a lot of people who Think Disney and think of Hot Dogs and Chicken Nuggets.  Well first your eating in the wrong spots and second your very very wrong..  This last trip in May we were on the meal plan.  We used the Deluxe Meal Plan that came with three meals a day full service or buffet.  Two snacks a day as well as the free mug at the hotel.  Why did we do the deluxe meal plan you may ask, because that seems like a lot of food.  Well yes it was a lot of food but the guys that came with us can EAT... And it allowed me to try a few place that we would not have tried before.  I am so glad that we did.  To this day all I can think about are the fried green tomatoes with crab meat from the California Grill.  They are amazing, and would go just for them if they were not closing down for a few months to get a new look.
One thing that I really love about Disney  is that they now they are using more fresh local veggies and such, more items on the menu are from that season.  A lot of fruit and such which is amazing.  But  I love the fact that even the Sunshine Seasons in Epcot use the veggies that are grown right there in the Land.  It makes a huge difference.  Ok you can go all out and have great meals if you do a few things, and what would that be.  Well you will need to do alittle planning.  I always go to a few web sites to see what the crowds are going to look like the days I am going to be there.  Next after I pick the park I go to another web site and look at the menus for the restaurants that I will be by.  Or if there are a few that look good I will book my day around them.  I have been know to even write down in a little note book the places that I want to try as well as what they have, just a few things .  And give my self a few different ideas for that day.  Now I know that if there is a place that I HAVE to eat at the getting an ADR is the best bet.  So start 180  out from the date you want to eat at and start calling Disney.  Back to the notebook, I use it mostly for quick service meals in case I change my mind and don't want a salad now or someone wants a good burger, that sort of thing.  There have been times when I was in Epcot and all I wanted was noodles with butter and a side salad.  So off to the Sun Shine Seasons in the Land and you can get just that if you like. Just go up to the pasta station and ask for just the noodles with butter.  It saved out bottom that last few times when that is all my little ones wanted for dinner.
That is another thing that I have to take my hat off to Disney for, is the fact that they are looking at new ideas for the kids menus.  And not making just nuggets and Mac an Cheese. My oldest could live off of salads if i let her while the other is all about Mac and Cheese or Pasta.  And that is something that I can find 99% of the time. I love the fact that the kids meals come with apples or grapes or yogurt or a good choc chip cookie.  They have things to choose from and my girls love that.  As well as the fact that Disney will help as much with a food allergy as they can.  They really do try to make your vacation perfect.  I have had a bad dinner at Disney but that will happen any where you go.  If you know what and where you wish to eat at it will make it easier.  You just need to plan and RELAX.  Also most of the Disney Apps now have menus on them or places where you can book ADR's.  I even pushed back and ADR one night with not a problem.  But if you go looking for it you can very easily find some amazing food on Disney Property.

A few things that I will always take with me.

There are a few things that I will always take with me on any trip.  Most of all Disney, heck I take these things with me when I am out for the day with my girls.  Even when I was on my last trip with my self, husband and our two friends. These items would have to be a to go size of wet wipes and a small first aid kit from the travel area of any large shopping center.
Your probably thinking why the wet wipes you do not have children with you?  Well when you find your self in sunshine food court and you have just found the last free table you will be glad that you had them.  I love that place in the land but do to the crowds the tables can not get cleaned as fast as they need to.  So just a quick wipe and your done.  I even handed one to the family trying to sit down next to us.  The Mother was very happy.  I am that freak that also cleans the table off if there is a mess before we leave just so it is ready for the next family.  I guess all those years of busing tables is getting to me.  Also there is Ice cream all over the place in Disney and it is normally very warm.  So the wet wipes make for a quick clean up as well.  I have been in the restrooms and heard the famous " I can not believe I did not pack them..."  And turned around to give a few wipes.  One mother this trip was so shocked that I had them.  She was trying to change her son when she noticed she was out.  I gave her some then told her to head to the baby care center for some more.  She did not even know that they had that sort of stuff there.  I was able to help out with a little one that had gotten a a small bloody nose, and was able to clean up alittle before heading to the first aid station.   Also they are great just to wipe your face and neck off with after a long hot day.  and a quick hand washing before eating meals. I have found so many uses for those that i do not leave home with at least a travel pack.
Now for the first aid kit, theses come with a few band-aids an some cream that sort of thing.  it is ok for a day or so but not much more then that.  I always add in a bunch of kids band aids as well as the ones for blisters. Some large band aids get added as well since my oldest took a good fall last year in AK and had to go to the first aid station to get it taken care of. I always have a second one that I fill with kids and adults benadryl, Tylenol, heart burn meds as well and stuff for  tummy troubles.  My sister in law and I bot have allergies to cretin foods. Don't get me wrong Disney does a great job of trying to help with these.  But sometimes things happen.  So is is better to be safe then sorry.  This last trip while in AK walking the trail there was a little girl who told her mother that she was getting a blister on her toes do to the new shoes. Well the fact that the shoes should have been broken in already is a different story.  But I told the mother that I have band aids if she needed one.  The little girls said no thanks till she found out I had ones with sparkles on them as well as kitty's, or wild animals on them.  Then she was all over them.  And went for sparkles,a true princess.  The look on her moms face was shock that I had the little kids band aids then a little worried.  I saw and told her that I had tow little ones at home with Nana and Papa.  and in fact my oldest who is 4 helped me pick out the band aids for this trip.  So mommy  could look pretty if I got a boo boo.
We let a father use it when his little one fell last year in bone yard, and got a scrap and needed a band aid.  So it is a few little things that I have to add to my bag.  but is can make the world of difference.  One other thing that we do not head to the parks with out is the girls lanyards yes they use them to collect pins but also on the bottoms of them is a card that has a picture on the front and on the back is all the important info that someone might need if they were lost from us or hurt.  It has their name and age and what city and town they are from.  As well as all the cell phones and names that go with them,  Like Mommy- Nicole Jolley  then my phone number.  She might be scared and not remember my real name. so this helps with that.  The girls love wearing them and they are taken off if we go off propriety.  It also stops you from having to tag all their clothing before you go and trying untag when you get home.  We have used them at other events as well like the Big E a large state fair.  Well that is all for today have a great day... and Dream Big...

Is it cranky kids day today...  My little one is anything but happy.  That was until she found the box of wheat thins and now is over the moon about it.. On a side note I was very happy that a few of my pictures from SWW weekend one were put up on a website last week.  That made me very happy.  Also while i was waiting for my oldest one to be done with her dance class I over heard a mom talking about wanting to go to Disney but not having a clue where to start.  At that point my sister in law grabbed me by the arm walked me over to the mother and said" here you go."  The poor mother had not clue what was going on.  So I had to laugh and explain that helping plan trips to Disney is what I do for fun.
She had alot of questions,  and she had heard a lot of miss information as well.  Her daughter is older then mine but I was able to help out as much as i could with out having my laptop with me.  I saw her a few days later and she had looked at a few of the sites that I gave her and they were planning their trip.  Also there was another family going down the same time as we were and I was able to give them a few pointers basic stuff.  IE go to the parks early not to wait till 10:30 like they had planned.  That way you can have lunch then go back for a swim and have gotten alot done.  Also I love the touring plans page and use the crowed calendar all the time.  When they got back they said thanks for the help and they loved the few place that I told them to eat at.
I have more tips for parents with little children then I do for the bigger ones but I will be getting better at that while time goes by.  I have to go do laundry so I will talk to you later.. have a great day..

Tuesday, June 5, 2012

Well the girls and and I will be heading up to my parents for a little R&R.  So what will we be doing in the Adirondack Mts.. A lot of nothing... We have a few things planed but just a lot of pool time as well as some well needed time with Meme and Papa.  One thing that my oldest is looking for is Bowling... Of all things. She is over the moon about going.  That and Meme is going to take her to the Library.  Both girls are book junkies.  So there will be lots of time cuddled up with ice tea and a pile of books.
One thing that I am happy about is that my parents have moved two hours closer to us, so the car ride is now only 4 hours and not 6.  And some days that four hours is too long.  I have tried everything from movies ( that is how we found out our oldest gets car sick.)  Kids music seems to work the best.  I am loving the fact that we can get music on my phone and play it in the car.  Both of the girls have backpacks that they fill with books and a few movies as well as the crayon wipe off bored, and puzzle books.  They work for a while.  But I try to do most of the driving while they have their normal nap time.
They love the fact that I let them pick out their own snacks and drinks makes them feel like there helping.  And I don't have  to hear this is not what I want to eat since it is what they packed.  My oldest is alot like me she loves to help me plan out what were going to to.  If she knows where were going she will let me know of a few things she wants to do.  IE I was told this trip she would like to have a tea party with Meme with little sandwiches and all.  Stuff like that letting her help plan seems to calm her down some.  She knows what were going to do and loves feeling like a grown up due to the fact that she helped plan out what we might do.  The one thing that this momma is looking forward too  is my moms homemade potato and pasta salad as well as her sour lettuce.  My husband does not like mayo so i don't bother to make the salads.  But no one can make it like mom any way right, that and a toasted tomato sandwich that my dad makes.  OK I am going up for the food you have all caught me.
But there is nothing better then comfort food.  A good book and a glass of homemade Ice tea. I know that their will be alot of laughs and some tears when we have to leave.  All I have to do now is see if our little one can sleep on a small air matters with out have a huge issue.  But she should be so tired at the end of the day that it should not be a big deal.  My husband can not get the time off of work so this will be a girls trip only.  We will be able to talk to daddy at bed time for hugs and love yous so that should be ok, we go up with out daddy a few times.  Well I would love to chat more but I have laundry that is calling my name.. I will talk to you later..

Disney trip 5/2012

Well We survived the trip.. The ride down was crazy, I had asked the guys to please plan out the ride.  IE who was going to drive and when..  As you can tell that did not happen at all.  So the trip down was a little crazy.  Once we arrived at Pop century things went great.  the line for online check in was little to no one. while the normal line was about 20 min or so long.  Still do not know why more people do not do the online check in takes less then five minutes to do... Any way. we were given joining  rooms 2452 and 2453 in the 50's wing.  Long that area, not a long walk to the bus stops or the food court.  We unloaded the car and went over to the food court to get some food.  since it was only ten am at this time and we had a 5:30 ADR at the California Grill.  We were using the deluxe dining plan and were told by the guy that checked us in that we would never use all that food.  I had picked the Deluxe plan because tow of the guys can eat you out of house and home.  So I was not worried about this choice.
One of the guys is allergic to Whey so we were not sure if this was going to be a big deal with the quick service or not.  So when we walked into the food court we found a manager right away and she sent for a chief.  He came out and talked to our friend then took him off to show him what he could and could not eat.  And by the time we had picked our food he was in line with us and had alot of food to choice from.
so after eating we went to Down Town Disney we wanted our one friend who had never been to Disney before to get a little taste of Disney with out having to hit a park.  Since we had to head back to the room around three ish to get ready for dinner.  We spent most of our time in the lego store but we knew that was going to happen.  While the guys were in there I went and got the visa card rewards card.  By the time I was done with that we had to head back to get ready.  I had never eaten at the California Grill before and I had heard alot of great things about it.  It was two food credits but I had planned an early dinner so I was not too worried.   We arrived and had to wait a little before we could go upstairs to the grill.  I had heard alot of people saying that others that were going were not dressed correctly and that nothing was said to them.  Well while waiting a family showed up and were told that they did not fit the dress code.  It did look like they just came from the pool area or a long day at the park.  They were told that if they wanted to go back and change their ADR would be held for an hour after the time the had so they could do so.    Other then that there were not other issues that I had seen.  We were able to sit at the bar and have a drink before our table was ready.  When it was we had a great view and were looking at the castle..
The chief came out and talked to our friend about what he could make him to eat.  The food was amazing...  For me the dining plan worked well for this.  All we had to pay was the tip and we were able to eat like kings and queens.  We were told if we want to come back to watch the fire works later we could cause we had eaten there earlier.  But we went back to DTD to see a movie.
The next day was a ARD at Chief Mickey and then Magic Kingdom.  We stayed in the MK till about one after having lunch at Cosmic Rays we went back to catch up on some lost sleep and to hit the pool.  There were alot of girl scout groups as well as school groups with children who did not have enough parents watching them.  That is one thing that does bother me.  When your trying to get some where or are in line and they try to cut through saying they need to get to their friends.  I told them Tough a few times...  We also had a few times when parents were sending their children through the crowd saying that had to get to their parents.  Then a few minutes later the parents would plow through saying they had to get to their children.
While we were in the line for Space Mountain a few kids tried to cut the line and when they got to the front of the line they were shown the way out.  A few min later an adult came back with them mad that they did not get to ride.  But when told why they did not get to ride the parent understood.  On the way out of Space mountain I was given a bag of cotton candy cause I had my birthday button on.
After or rest and swim we got dressed and went to Ohana for dinner.  It too was very good and we enjoyed every minute of it.  We then went back to MK for the Electrical Light Parade.  I had never had the chance to see it before and loved it.  I tried to get on Splash Mt after that but it was closed, so I went back to try to find a place to watch the fire works.  Wishes is one of my favorite firework shows.  After Wishes were over we waited about 30 min or so to let the crowds get lower and we still had a wait to get on to the boat.  But we hit the stores and were able to take a few night shots that I had been wanting to take.
I will write more about the trip tomorrow..

Tuesday, May 1, 2012

Only 14 days left and so much to do...  looks like we will be taking the truck and not our friend car.  It will cost more but we will have more leg room.  Having the most leg room for a 22 hour drive will be better in the long run.  That and we will have more plugs to allow the guys to plug in more phones and mp3 players as well as computers.  I am driving down with three of the biggest geeks in the world.  So by allowing them to have the most geek toys will be better.  I will have my collection of Walt Disney books as well as podcasts to keep me from going crazy.  My kindle is also loaded with Disney trivia books and soundtracks.   Yes I am one of those people who have the Monorail message on their Ipod.
Like I had said before this will be the first time we will be using a meal plan.  So I will have to go over the idea with the guys and the car seems like the best place.. They can not get away....  One thing that I always do is i make a little book.  With a list of park opening times and crowd levels.  All the things that I might need even the parade times.  I have even gone so far before smartphones by printing out the menus of the places we might like to eat at.  So we could sit down and take a second at a park and see where we want to eat.  And not have to walk around place to place.  this was very handy four years ago when we went with my in laws.  My father in law could look at them and figure out where he wanted to go.   He can not read the screen on the smartphones  so having the paper for him to look at worked well, so well I have to make them a book every time they go now...
It just makes for a quick reference  guide.  I still use the phone for wait times and that but this is just a little easier to open the book and look and does not kill the battery on my phone.  I also have the list of places that can take the meal plan as well as what snacks you can get on the plan too.  The guys are very laid back so I get to plan everything.  When we're eating what park were go to when we're leaving..  Since Nick has never been before I have planned out a few buffets as well as some sit down places that i love as well as a few that I have heard about and wanted to try.  Were leaving CT about 8:30 am on the Tuesday so I am hoping we will get to Disney in the morning of Wednesday.  But leaving enough time if we have to stop and sleep some.  We have a 5:30 pm ADR at the California Grill.  this will give us enough time to rest and maybe go for a swim before we have to get ready for dinner.  The next few days we will be spent having great meals  followed by time in  parks.  I plan on getting up early and getting back to bed before midnight...  With the chance to go to the movies or just listening to a band without having to deal with the kids sounds dreamy.
Don’t get me wrong I love the girls but being able to have a night off where we can just breath and go out and listen to the music of Disney.  Not just in Down Town but Disney itself has it own music..  I love just sitting on the TTA and listening to sounds of Disney.  Also I love to people watch.  So sitting on main street and watching the people go by.   I have never seen the kiss goodnight and I am looking forward to seeing it.
I have to go so I will talk to you later...
